Current ProjectsValentin Gomez Farias Elementary School Drinking Water FilterWater for Humans is directly helping over 200 children ensure that they always have clean, safe drinking water at the Valentin Gomez Farias Elementary School in Santo Domingo Barrio Bajo Etla (SDBBE), Oaxaca, Mexico. Water for Humans has been working with the SDBBE community for the past several years. With this project, we can both provide safe clean drinking water and eliminate the burden of purchasing bottled water. Currently, the school allocates some of its limited resources to purchase bottled water for the school, because the municipal water is NOT SAFE to DRINK. With the installation of this water filter, the school will be able to redirect these funds to improving the educational experience of the children.
Student accessing water Lavatory The majority of the funding for this implementation is from the Bremerton (WA) Rotary Club. In addition, we are coordinating our efforts with the local Antequera Rotary Club in Oaxaca. This system will include a separate rooftop water storage tank and a point-of use water filter system with a unique faucet to ensure that the school has access to safe water at all times. The separate holding tank is needed because the municipal well water is only available three times per week and the current water storage system includes captured surface water. Because of the captured surface water, we cannot reliably treat this water. Its quality will vary radically due to surface contamination. Initially, we will install one unique faucet and have plans to incorporate up to four special spigots.
